Elk in the mist

Elk

I just have a quick minute with an internet connection and wanted to post a shot from yesterday morning’s outing to view an elk herd that has been reintroduced in Southeastern Kentucky. More later…

Now that doesn’t suck. You’ve got a nice run of “foggy” pics over the last couple trips. You’ll have to give us some “details” on the shot when you have some time.

That’s a great photo! I live in Southeastern Kentucky and have seen many of the elk that you are photography. It is a beautiful part of the world with many great landscape and wildlife photo opportunities. I hope you enjoy your time here!

Thanks, Brandon. I did enjoy myself in Kentucky. Beautiful country, great people, and you can’t beat that Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale!

Doug: It does seem like I’ve been “in a fog” a lot lately! Actually, it’s one of my favorite kinds of weather to shoot in. This particular shot was the second frame of the morning. A bunch of us were crammed into a van having just made the long trip out to the mining area when these elk suddenly appeared out of the mist to our right. I was in the back (figures) and struggled to swap my 17-35 for my 80-200 as quickly as possible, managing to do so in time to rip off just 5 frames through the van’s window before the last elk disappeared over the hillside. With those shots already on the card, I figured the rest of the day was gravy.
